Сколько на самом деле лет кипрским дорогам?

Как в древности киприот добирался из города, скажем, в храм Зевса или Афродиты, расположенный в отдаленном месте? Как можно было перевезти свежее вино и оливковое масло из деревни в город? Для этого нужны были дороги, но что мы о них знаем?

Со времен заселения острова первыми людьми и до разрушения Римской империи в V веке н.э. жители Кипра много сил потратили на прокладывание основных дорог. Античные географы и путешественники оставили нам некоторые сведения о географии острова и его дорожной инфраструктуре. Также сохранились средневековые рукописи древних дорожных таблиц. До XVIII века путешественники не пользовались картами, вместо этого были таблицы, которые не повторяли реальное расположение городов и очертания материков, а лишь указывали направления. Вот одна из таких таблиц — скрижаль Пейтингерова с изображением Кипра.

У нас сохранились мильные столбы римского времени. Всего лишь 30 штук и в основном в горной местности, остальные киприоты растащили ещё много сотен лет назад. Столбы — самое надёжное свидетельство древности дороги, ведь в большинстве случаев столбы находят in situ, то есть в том месте, где непосредственно проходила древняя магистраль.

Наконец, карта Китченера — самая старая карта в нашем современном понимании. На ней указаны все известные дороги Кипра, вот только карта эта была написана аж в XIX веке, на 1500 тысячи лет позже наших древних дорог.

Что соединяли дороги?

Люди древности были далеко не глупыми и не стали бы проводить дороги там, где для этого не было особой необходимости. Поэтому дороги связывали только те объекты, которые были крайне важны для киприотов, но что это?

В первую очередь, существовали дорожные магистрали между городами. Конечно, добраться из Китиона (Ларнаки) в Саламин (Фамагусту) можно было и по морю, но надежнее была обычная пешая прогулка.

Дорогами связывались города с сельской местностью. Нужно было привозить на рынок свежее вино, масло и продукты питания. Дороги проводили к особо важным религиозным строениям, а также в горы и леса, чтобы поставлять полезные ископаемые и дары дикой природы.

Какими были дороги?

Межгородское сообщение, особенно в римское время, проходило по мощенной дороге. Путь в лес из деревни был обычной тропинкой, проложенной без каких-либо материалов. Впрочем, чаще всего дороги строились из утрамбованного гравия и булыжника — вне зависимости от своего внешнего вида и качества, они имели несколько общих черт.

Во-первых, дороги в древности были бесплатными, и по ним могли ходить все желающие. Даже если дорога была построена за государственный счет или жителями какого-то населенного пункта.

Во-вторых, по дорогам ходили пешком. Да, на острове было полно лошадей, мулов, ослов, тележек и карет. Однако жители, в том числе и обеспеченные, предпочитали пешие прогулки. Если, конечно, они не были многодневными.

Киприоту никогда бы не пришло в голову запрячь лошадь или осла, чтобы съездить на рынок или посетить службу в языческом храме за городом. Так передвигались только обеспеченные жители, которые держали прислугу, ухаживающую за «припаркованными» животными.

Помимо пешеходов по дорогам передвигались стада животных и тележки с колесницами. Последние были в основном двухколесные, египетского типа, реже транспорт имел четыре колеса. На тележках-колесницах возили продукты в города и изредка — людей.

Когда появились полноценные дороги?

Самое раннее свидетельство о существовании межгородского сообщения относится к V столетию до н.э. Однако, возможно, такие длинные магистрали появились на несколько сотен лет раньше.

Дороги существовали с тех пор, как в горах начали добывать полезные ископаемые, а с деревень — свозить товары на городские рынки. Мы остановимся на межгородских.

Примерно к 300 году до н.э. на острове существовали две независимые дорожные системы — в Пафосе и в Месаории. Первая сеть связывала Древний Пафос с Новым Пафосом и Акамасом, то есть современным Полисом. Вторая шла от Куриона (Лимассол) через Китион (Ларнака) в Саламин (Фамагуста) и на север в современный столичный район и в Кирению.

Почему дорожные сети не связаны друг с другом? Потому что Кипр, как и Греция, не был единым государством. В Пафосе была своя дорожная сеть, в Китионе (Ларнаке) — другая, а в Саламине (Фамагусте) — третья. Только благодаря близкому географическому положению и политическим причинам две последние дорожные сети объединили.

После походов Александра против Персидской империи и гибели сначала второй, а потом самого Александра, Кипр перешёл под покровительство греческих монархов Египта. Остров стал единым и политически, и экономически. Началось активное строительство дорог. В это время появилась единая дорожная система, на севере острова и в районе Пафоса велось интенсивное дорожное строительство.

В конце I столетия н.э. Кипр стал римской территорией. Новые господа начали строительство качественных мощённых дорог с мильными столбами. Такую развитую дорожную систему Кипр не будет иметь до XX века. После распада римской империи римские дороги, как и римские акведуки, будут использоваться еще две тысячи лет.

Пример древней дороги

Одной из таких древних дорог является Декелийское шоссе, которое сегодня соединяет Ларнаку с Айя-Напой. Древней частью является та, что начинается в Ларнаке и продолжается до озера Ороклини. Благодаря географическим и геологическим особенностям дорога могла проходить только тут. Море, озеро Ороклини и тростниковые поля Ливадии, которые в древности были, вероятно, заболочены, не давали возможности построить дорогу в другом месте.

В общем, этой дороге не меньше 2300 лет. Сначала она соединяла город Китион, в котором жили преимущественно финикийцы, с грекоязычным городом Саламин. Дорога проходила там, где сейчас расположены Jambo, Cafe Nero и очистительный нефтяной завод.

Сегодня здесь ездят туристы из аэропорта в Айя-Напу и прибрежные пригороды Ларнаки. Сотни и тысячи лет назад по ней шагали греки, римские солдаты, крестоносцы, турки.

    10.4      Clauses which, by their nature, are intended to survive termination of these Terms, including clauses 5, 6, 7, 10.1, continue in force.

    10.5      If any part or provision of these Terms is or becomes illegal, unenforceable, or invalid, that part or provision is deemed to be modified to the extent

    required to remedy the illegality, unenforceability or invalidity. If a modification is not possible, the part or provision must be treated for all purposes as

    severed from these Terms. The remainder of these Terms will be binding on you.

    10.6      These Terms set out everything agreed by the parties relating to your use of the Website and supersede and cancel anything discussed, exchanged or

    agreed prior to you agreeing to these Terms. The parties have not relied on any representation, warranty or agreement relating to the Website that is not

    expressly set out in the Terms, and no such representation, warranty or agreement has any effect from the date you agreed to these Terms.
