Древний город Курион

Курион является одним из самых впечатляющих древних мест Кипра и всего Средиземноморья. Он возник как город-государство примерно в XI-XII вв. до н.э. после прибытия с материковой Греции ахейцев-колонизаторов. По легенде, это произошло после окончания Троянской войны. Курион был одним из самых богатых городов Кипра.

Разрушительные землетрясения, которые произошли в этих местах во второй половине IV века н.э., стали началом упадка города. Печальной памятью об этом разрушительном бедствии 365 года является археологическая находка, сделанная несколько лет назад, – скелеты трех человек, мужчины, женщины и ребенка. Они были найдены крепко обнявшимися, лежащими вместе. Хотя это и не единственные обнаруженные останки, вид их последнего объятия до сегодняшнего дня остается душераздирающим зрелищем. Эту находку можно увидеть в археологическом музее Куриона в деревне Епископи.

Христианизация острова и угасание почитания Аполлона Гилатского, которое приносило в казну Куриона значительные суммы, автоматически означало и значительное сокращение паломников, что существенно подорвало экономику города.

Наиболее важными памятниками древнего Куриона являются: амфитеатр, римский форум, термы, христианская базилика (в городе находилась епископская кафедра и в святцах мы находим одного из предстоятелей местной церкви – свт. Филонида Курийского), святилище Аполлона Гилатского, стадион и небольшая базилика за стенами. Не менее важны и три виллы (Ахилла, Гладиаторов и Евстолия) с сохранившимися напольными мозаиками.

Вилла Евстолия – один из важнейших археологических памятников Лимассола. Она располагается на юго-восточном краю холма и представляет собой основание дома с шикарной напольной мозаикой. Хотя личность владельца дома, Евстолия, остается неизвестной, его вклад в развитие Куриона явным образом засвидетельствован благодаря напольным надписям, выложенным мозаикой. Судя по ним, христианин Евстолий, желая помочь гражданам города, разрушенного землетрясением, построил эту виллу и предоставил ее для тех, чьи дома были уничтожены.

Со временем вилла стала общественным пространством и превратилась в комплекс с банями, кухней, жилыми помещениями. Дом стал прибежищем для жителей города, а Евстолий стал считаться покровителем Куриона.

В вилле особенно интересны мозаичные композиции с христианской символикой (рыба, гусь, павлин и другие). Эти символы подтверждают широкое распространение христианства в городе после великого землетрясения.

Город Курион обладает уникальной красотой. С холма, где расположены его основные памятники, открывается великолепный вид на Средиземное море.

Святилище Аполлона Гилатского

Святилище Аполлона Гилатского (Гилатским он назван потому, что селение, рядом с которым вырос храмовый комплекс, называлось Гила) вблизи от древнего города Курион является одним из главных религиозных центров древнего Кипра. Святилище было одним из самых популярных сакральных мест острова.

Согласно греческой мифологии, Аполлон был богом света, искусств и музыки. Он символизировал красоту человека и считался самым красивым из богов, вызывая восхищение и трепет. Среди памятников, которые были ему посвящены, одним из крупнейших и знаменитейших являлось святилище на Кипре.

Здесь Аполлону поклонялись как защитнику леса. Похоже, что его культ возник в VIII веке, когда Курион был одним из важнейших городов своего времени. Храм Аполлона был построен по образцу святилища в Эпидавре (Греция). Считается, что древние греки строили храмы Аполлона, бога света, в тех точках, где сияние солнца было более интенсивным.

Святилище имело довольно большую площадь, в нем насчитывалось три квартала (юго-восточный, юго-западный и северо-восточный), которые вели к центральной дороге, называемой «Священная улица». Вход в храм осуществлялся через ворота – Курийские и Пафосские, само святилище было окружено рощей. В этом сакральном комплексе были обнаружены остатки круглого памятника, который, как считается, использовался для ритуалов, священных танцев и процессий. Также были обнаружены развалины терм и палестры (своего рода «спортивной школы» в Древней Греции).

Греческий историк и географ Страбон упоминает святилище в своем труде «География» в следующем контексте: «Началом западного морского пути на Родос является Курион; затем тотчас идет мыс, откуда сбрасывают святотатцев, коснувшихся алтаря Аполлона».

Эти культовые места были разрушены и покинуты в конце IV века. Причиной стали как сильные землетрясения, так и повсеместное распространение христианства на острове.

    1            Application of terms

    1.1        These Terms apply to your use of the Website. By accessing and using the Website:

    a            you agree to these Terms; and

    b            where your access and use is on behalf of another person (e.g. a company), you confirm that you are authorised to, and do in fact, agree to these Terms

    on that person’s behalf and that, by agreeing to these Terms on that person’s behalf, that person is bound by these Terms.

    3            Definitions

    In these Terms:

    Loss includes loss of profits, savings, revenue or data, and any other claim, damage, loss, liability and cost, including legal costs on a solicitor and own client basis

    personal information means information about an identifiable, living person

    Terms means these terms and conditions titled Terms and conditions of use

    Underlying System means any network, system, software, data or material that underlies or is connected to the Website

    You means you or, if clause 1.1b applies, both you and the other person on whose behalf you are acting.

     

    4            Your obligations

    4.1        You must provide true, current and complete information in your dealings with us and must promptly update that information as required so that the

    information remains true, current and complete.

    4.2        You must:

    a not act in a way, or use or introduce anything (including any virus, worm, Trojan horse, timebomb, keystroke logger, spyware or other similar feature) that in any way compromises, or may compromise, the Website or any Underlying System, or otherwise attempt to damage or interfere with the Website or any Underlying System; and

    b unless with our agreement, access the Website via standard web browsers only and not by any other method. Other methods include scraping, deep-linking, harvesting, data mining, use of a robot or spider, automation, or any similar data gathering, extraction or monitoring method.

    4.3 You indemnify us against all Loss we suffer or incur as a direct or indirect result of your failure to comply with these Terms.

    10.2      These Terms, and any dispute relating to these Terms or the Website, are governed by and must be interpreted in accordance with the laws of the

    Republic of Cyprus.

    Each party submits to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of the Republic of Cyprus in relation to any dispute connected with these Terms or the

    Website.

    10.3      For us to waive a right under these Terms, the waiver must be in writing.

    10.4      Clauses which, by their nature, are intended to survive termination of these Terms, including clauses 5, 6, 7, 10.1, continue in force.

    10.5      If any part or provision of these Terms is or becomes illegal, unenforceable, or invalid, that part or provision is deemed to be modified to the extent

    required to remedy the illegality, unenforceability or invalidity. If a modification is not possible, the part or provision must be treated for all purposes as

    severed from these Terms. The remainder of these Terms will be binding on you.

    10.6      These Terms set out everything agreed by the parties relating to your use of the Website and supersede and cancel anything discussed, exchanged or

    agreed prior to you agreeing to these Terms. The parties have not relied on any representation, warranty or agreement relating to the Website that is not

    expressly set out in the Terms, and no such representation, warranty or agreement has any effect from the date you agreed to these Terms.
