Как выглядел Кипр 2019 лет назад?

Каким был остров сто, пятьсот, тысячу лет назад: о чем думали, что ели и много ли путешествовали местные жители? К счастью, погрузиться в прошлое Кипра несложно — сегодня у науки много письменных и вещественных свидетельств ушедших времён.

Давайте окунемся в историю и посмотрим на прошлое острова. Но в какое время? Во время войн, революций и миграций? Нет, давайте найдём мирную и благополучную эпоху. Недолго думая, можно ответить — древность и римский мир. Никаких войн с иноземцами и значительных религиозных столкновений, только тихая и спокойная провинциальная жизнь. Допустим, 1-й год нашей эры.

Климат Кипра

В 1-й год новой эры климат на Кипре примерно соответствовал современному или даже был чуть теплее. Как и сейчас, на планете наблюдалось всемирное потепление, на острове снег зимой выпадал только в горах. Зато лето немного отличалось — оно было более влажным. А значит, с одной стороны, Кипр был значительно плодороднее, чем сейчас, с другой — в жару людям без кондиционеров жилось куда тяжелее.

Древние киприоты, равно как и многие современные жители острова, были с детства закалены. Дома зимой не отапливались, полы были покрыты каменной плиткой, по которой ходили и взрослые, и дети. Хотя древние прекрасно владели техникой подогрева пола, позволить себе такую роскошь могли только самые богатые семьи.

Одежда

Как и сегодня, одежда делилась на зимнюю и летнюю. В тёплое время года киприоты ходили в лёгких и свободных нарядах из шерсти и льна. Зимой островитяне носили дублёнки (шубы и куртки из овечьей шкуры) и кожанки. Обувались в сандали, кожаные полусапоги и закрытую обувь – в зависимости от погоды.

Подобно материковым грекам с римлянами, киприоты терпеть не могли штаны. Штаны – это символ варварской моды. Кстати, в греческом языке было много слов, означающих варварские штаны. Одним таким термином был σαράβαρα [сарабара] – слово, заимствованное из персидских языков. Восточные славяне переделают этот термин в «шаровары».

Питание

Рацион две тысячи лет назад также значительно не отличался от современного. Киприоты предпочитали средиземноморскую кухню. Основными злаковыми культурами были пшеница, ячмень и бобы: чечевица, нут и горох. Реже готовить пшено, овёс и рис.

Мясо и фрукты мало отличались от наших. Цитрусовые были немного другими, так как известные нам апельсины, лимоны и грейпфруты являются результатом длительного скрещивания древних фруктов.

Богатые киприоты были знакомы с экзотической диковинкой из Африки — арбузом, его зачастую ели соленым! Бананов не было — они росли в Индии, и транспортировать скоропортящийся продукт в Средиземноморье было крайне тяжело, точнее, невозможно.

Древние киприоты, как и их соседи, любили мясо, но, видимо, не умели его так разнообразно готовить как, например, северные народы. Зато на острове было широко развито сыроварение и производство несладких йогуртов и других молочных продуктов. По-видимому, древние киприоты, как и греки, не переносили лактозу и, в отличие от северных варваров, не могли пить молоко в свежем виде.

Основными напитками были вода и вино. Реже киприоты делали свежевыжатые соки. В отличие от египтян и северян, пиво и медовуха, а также слабоалкогольные напитки на их основе, популярностью не пользовались.

На Кипр в древности из Ближнего Востока, Египта и Греции завезли одомашненных птиц, рогатый скот, лошадей, верблюдов, ослов. Ну и, конечно же, собак с котами.

Политико-социальная картина

Политическая ситуация сильно не походила на современную. Мы привыкли, что Кипр — это своеобразная граница между европейским и азиатским мирами, так было с далекой древности и до сегодняшнего дня. Даже сейчас фактически только две трети острова входят в Евросоюз, а треть оккупирована Турцией – европеизированным, но все же восточным азиатским государством.

Римское время — исключение из правил. Несколько сотен лет до нашего времени греки отодвинули границу европейской культуры далеко на восток, пришедшие на их место римляне укрепили эту границу политически. Что это все значит?

Кипр в римское время не страдал от своего географического положения. Целые сотни лет сюда не высаживались чужие народы, не диктовали свои правила, не строили иноземные странные храмы и даже не пытались добывать на прибережном шельфе нефть, называя эту территорию своей.

Киприоты жили в безопасном мире, здесь находилось небольшое количество римских воинов, но защищать остров просто было не от кого. Сами граждане бунтовали очень редко.

Языки

Как и все окружающие остров народы, киприоты говорили на позднем древнегреческом языке, на котором, к слову, через столетие от нашего времени будет написан Новый Завет. А Ветхий Завет к 1-му году нашей эры уже был переведён на греческий учёными из Александрии. Другие местные языки на Кипре, по-видимому, уже вымерли.

Постепенно на остров приходит латинский язык, но учат его только киприоты, желающие стать чиновниками и выбиться в большую политику. Примечательно, что в это время в самом Риме чиновники и политики говорят на греческом, порой пренебрежительно относясь к родной латыни.

Внутреннее устройство страны

В римское время Кипр был разделён на 4 административных района со столицами в Пафосе, Саламине (он же Саламис), Аматусе (8 км к востоку от Лимассола) и Лапете (недалеко от Кирении). Также крупными городами были Китион (Ларнака) и Курион. Столицей римского Кипра был Пафос. Как и сегодня, Кипр был негустонаселённым островом и по количеству жителей уступал отдельным крупным городам соседних регионов.

Путешествия

Кстати, куда могли путешествовать жители острова? Да куда угодно! Ведь всё Средиземноморье стало «Римским озером», а значит, киприоты могли путешествовать и даже мигрировать в другие земли.

Например, до ближайшего мегаполиса, Александрии Египетской, от Пафоса можно было добраться на корабле всего за 3 дня, до Афин — за неделю, до Рима — за 20 дней, а до дальних рубежей империи, до Британии — за 2 месяца.

Правда, тогда Британия была дикой и еще не освоенной римлянами территорией, а вместо Лондона и Нью-Йорка, куда сегодня стремится непоседливая молодёжь, были Рим и Александрия.

Религия

Религиозный мир в римское время покажется нам удивительным. Киприоты поклонялись своим старым древнегреческими богам, но также были открыты и новым.

В римскую эпоху существовали храм Афродиты в Пафосе и храм Аполлона в Курионе, работали сотни небольших храмовых комплексов по всему острову. Вместе с тем появились новые заимствованные восточные божества и даже культ римского императора.

Отдельно стоит упомянуть про миграцию на остров иудеев. В Саламине и, вероятно, в других городах жило много евреев — беженцев из Палестины. Именно для них перевели на греческий Ветхий Завет.

    1            Application of terms

    a not act in a way, or use or introduce anything (including any virus, worm, Trojan horse, timebomb, keystroke logger, spyware or other similar feature) that in any way compromises, or may compromise, the Website or any Underlying System, or otherwise attempt to damage or interfere with the Website or any Underlying System; and

    10.4      Clauses which, by their nature, are intended to survive termination of these Terms, including clauses 5, 6, 7, 10.1, continue in force.

    10.5      If any part or provision of these Terms is or becomes illegal, unenforceable, or invalid, that part or provision is deemed to be modified to the extent

    required to remedy the illegality, unenforceability or invalidity. If a modification is not possible, the part or provision must be treated for all purposes as

    severed from these Terms. The remainder of these Terms will be binding on you.

    10.6      These Terms set out everything agreed by the parties relating to your use of the Website and supersede and cancel anything discussed, exchanged or

    agreed prior to you agreeing to these Terms. The parties have not relied on any representation, warranty or agreement relating to the Website that is not

    expressly set out in the Terms, and no such representation, warranty or agreement has any effect from the date you agreed to these Terms.
