Бастионы Лимассола

Оцифрованные архивы «Вестника Кипра». № 783 от 01.10.2010 г. Лимассольский замок находится на западном конце исторического центра города, возле старого порта. Строился он для защиты порта и города от многочисленных нападений. В последний раз замок перестраивался в 1590 году, когда Кипр находился во власти Османской империи. Самые же ранние упоминания о замке относятся к 1128 году. Утверждается, что замок существовал еще при правлении Кипром Византией. Сегодня на территории замка расположился Музей Средневековья.

Как и большинство замков периода средневековья, здание имеет прямоугольную форму, а толщина его стен достигает двух метров.

Сегодня, поднявшись по ступеням, вы окажетесь у стойки регистрации, где продаются входные билеты. Внимание: фото- и видеосъемки в этом замке категорически запрещены, как, впрочем, и во всех музеях мира, поэтому заранее уберите свои фото-камеры в сумки, иначе придется сдать их на хранение при входе.

На стене у входа во внутренние помещения вы увидите карту острова, на которой отмечены все форты и замки Кипра. Глядя на эту карту, понимаешь, какой нелегкой была жизнь людей в те времена: все прибрежные города постоянно были готовы к отпору.

Войдя в замок, с правой стороны вы увидите лестницу, ведущую вниз, в большую подземную комнату с высокими сводами. Из этой комнаты вы можете подняться на крышу замка по спиральной лестнице.

В северной комнате первого этажа когда-то располагалась христианская византийская базилика (церковь).

Если верить преданиям, то именно в этой церкви венчались знаменитые Ричард и Беренгария – английский король и принцесса Наваррская. История эта обросла множеством легенд и романтических подробностей.

Бракосочетание должно было состояться в Иерусалиме, накануне Третьего Крестового похода, куда и отправился в 1191 году Ричард. Корабль Беренгарии плыл вслед за кораблями жениха.

Захватывает дух рассказ о том, как судно принцессы, попав в шторм, было вынуждено пришвартоваться к берегам тогда еще византийского Кипра; как последний кипрский наместник из династии Комниных опрометчиво захватил в плен Беренгарию вместе с ее свитой; как Ричард незамедлительно бросился на защиту чести своей возлюбленной; а Комнин, не рассчитав силу амбиций английского короля, осмелился ему перечить. В итоге великий крестоносец высадил на берега Кипра свою кавалерию и солдат, а Комнин пустился в бега. Преследуя нелюбезного византийского наместника, Ричард захватил район Колосси, затем долину Месаория, город Китион (ныне Ларнака), Фамагусту, Никосию, замок святого Иллариона, замки Кериния и Кантара… В течение месяца остров перешел под управление английского короля (подробности читайте в статье «Английских королей обижать не рекомендуется», ВК 1771). А венчание Ричарда и Беренгарии произошло именно здесь, на Кипре, в церкви лимассольского форта.

Вот такая полная страсти романтическая история.

В действительности же во всяком случае, опираясь на факты, почерпнутые из исторических документов, – романтики в этом браке не было с самого начала, да и закончился он весьма грустно.

Как поется в известной песне «Все могут короли, но… жениться по любви не может ни один, ни один король!» Так и в браке между английским королем и принцессой Наваррской решающую роль играли мотивы сугубо политические. К тому же, знаменитый крестоносец, как сообщают нам документы, предпочитал женщинам мальчиков. Поэтому молодая жена вскоре была забыта. Принцесса Беренгария не могла иметь детей, да и вообще здоровье имела слабое. Через несколько лет после свадьбы она скончалась. Жизнь ее была недолгой и невеселой.

Вернемся к истории замка. В 1373 году замок сильно пострадал во время набегов генуэзцев и до конца XIV века лежал в руинах. Лишь в начале XV века в замок вернулась жизнь: он был практически заново отстроен, и стал основной опорой при защите города. Во время археологических раскопок в церкви Панагия Католики был найден надгробный камень XIV века с изображением форта Лимассола – замок с тремя башнями.

В 1413 году заново отстроенный замок достойно выдержал осаду египетских мамлюков, но вот дать достойный отпор в 1425 году тем же мамлюкам уже не удалось. Были ли тому причиной трещины, образовавшиеся во время предыдущих атак или многочисленных землетрясений… Впоследствии сильнейшее землетрясение 1491 года фактически превратило замок в руины.

Незадолго до захвата острова Османской империей в 1570 году венецианцы, находившиеся тогда у власти, окончательно разрушили замок, чтобы он не достался туркам. В 1590 году замок заново отстраивался уже турецкими захватчиками. С XIX и вплоть до середины XX века подвалы замка использовались как тюрьма. В период с 1963 по 1974 года замок использовался как пост для Национальной гвардии.

Начиная с 1975 года, вплоть до сегодняшнего дня, в замке находится Музей Средневековья.

В замке-музее представлены экспонаты, рассказывающие о жизни острова, начиная с III века н.э. Здесь и бронзовая посуда, и предметы мужской и женской одежды, и мраморная мебель, и каменные надгробия. Но, пожалуй, самыми интересными экспонатами являются каменные плиты с опознавательными знаками крестоносцев из разных орденов.

Глядя на железные доспехи средневекового воина в одном из залов музея, нельзя не содрогнуться, представив в них себя на кипрской жаре. Одновременно с этим удивляют размеры лат – сегодня в них мог бы с трудом поместиться ученик средних классов. Судя по всему, народ в средневековье был маленьким, но сильным и выносливым.

Прогулявшись вокруг стен замка, вы увидите старинные прессы для оливок, предметы быта кипрских крестьян и фрагменты древних строений.

Интересно было бы узнать, какая судьба ждет этот замок через столетие. Пройдя через различные испытания и перипетии – военные захваты, свадьбы великих людей, содержание заключенных, – он превратился в пенсионера с размеренной жизнью музейного смотрителя.

    1            Application of terms

    1.1        These Terms apply to your use of the Website. By accessing and using the Website:

    a            you agree to these Terms; and

    b            where your access and use is on behalf of another person (e.g. a company), you confirm that you are authorised to, and do in fact, agree to these Terms

    on that person’s behalf and that, by agreeing to these Terms on that person’s behalf, that person is bound by these Terms.

    1.2        If you do not agree to these Terms, you are not authorised to access and use the Website, and you must immediately stop doing so.

     

    2            Changes

    2.1        We may change these Terms at any time by updating them on the Website. Unless stated otherwise, any change takes effect immediately. You are       responsible for ensuring you are familiar with the latest Terms. By continuing to access and use the Website, you agree to be bound by the changed

    2.2        We may change, suspend, discontinue, or restrict access to, the Website without notice or liability.

    3            Definitions

    In these Terms:

    including and similar words do not imply any limit

    Loss includes loss of profits, savings, revenue or data, and any other claim, damage, loss, liability and cost, including legal costs on a solicitor and own client basis

    personal information means information about an identifiable, living person

    Terms means these terms and conditions titled Terms and conditions of use

    Underlying System means any network, system, software, data or material that underlies or is connected to the Website

    We, us or our means VESTNIK KIPRA Group

    You means you or, if clause 1.1b applies, both you and the other person on whose behalf you are acting.

     

    4            Your obligations

    4.1        You must provide true, current and complete information in your dealings with us and must promptly update that information as required so that the

    information remains true, current and complete.

    4.2        You must:

    a not act in a way, or use or introduce anything (including any virus, worm, Trojan horse, timebomb, keystroke logger, spyware or other similar feature) that in any way compromises, or may compromise, the Website or any Underlying System, or otherwise attempt to damage or interfere with the Website or any Underlying System; and

    b unless with our agreement, access the Website via standard web browsers only and not by any other method. Other methods include scraping, deep-linking, harvesting, data mining, use of a robot or spider, automation, or any similar data gathering, extraction or monitoring method.

    4.3 You indemnify us against all Loss we suffer or incur as a direct or indirect result of your failure to comply with these Terms.
     

    5            Intellectual property

    We (and our licensors) own all proprietary and intellectual property rights in the Website (including all information, data, text, graphics, artwork, photographs, logos, icons, sound recordings, videos and look and feel), and the Underlying Systems.

    6.1        To the extent permitted by law, we and our licensors have no liability or responsibility to you or any other person for any Loss in connection with:

    8.1        You are not required to provide personal information to us, although in some cases if you choose not to do so then we will be unable to make certain sections of the Website available to you. For example, we may need to have your contact information in order to provide you with updates from our Website.

    8.2        The personal information you provide to us is collected and may be used for communicating with you, statistical analysis, the marketing by us of products

    and services to you, credit checks (if necessary), and research and development.

    10         General

    10.1      If we need to contact you, we may do so by email or by posting a notice on the Website. You agree that this satisfies all legal requirements in relation to written communications.

    10.2      These Terms, and any dispute relating to these Terms or the Website, are governed by and must be interpreted in accordance with the laws of the

    Republic of Cyprus.

    Each party submits to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of the Republic of Cyprus in relation to any dispute connected with these Terms or the

    Website.

    10.3      For us to waive a right under these Terms, the waiver must be in writing.

    10.4      Clauses which, by their nature, are intended to survive termination of these Terms, including clauses 5, 6, 7, 10.1, continue in force.

    10.5      If any part or provision of these Terms is or becomes illegal, unenforceable, or invalid, that part or provision is deemed to be modified to the extent

    required to remedy the illegality, unenforceability or invalidity. If a modification is not possible, the part or provision must be treated for all purposes as

    severed from these Terms. The remainder of these Terms will be binding on you.

    10.6      These Terms set out everything agreed by the parties relating to your use of the Website and supersede and cancel anything discussed, exchanged or

    agreed prior to you agreeing to these Terms. The parties have not relied on any representation, warranty or agreement relating to the Website that is not

    expressly set out in the Terms, and no such representation, warranty or agreement has any effect from the date you agreed to these Terms.
