Города-царства древнего Кипра

В древние времена, то есть в XII–IV вв. до н.э., остров Кипр был местом, где существовали тринадцать независимых городов-царств. Они вступали в союзы друг с другом и с более могущественными державами, воевали и торговали. Часть из них превратились в современные процветающие города, другие канули в Лету.

 

Саламин

Саламин, расположенный на восточном побережье Кипра, был одним из самых могущественных царств острова. Его основали греки после Троянской войны – согласно преданию, первым царем был сын Аякса Теламонида Тефкр. Благодаря удобной гавани Саламин стал главным торговым и культурным центром античного Кипра. Здесь процветали ремесла, торговля с Финикией и Египтом, а в эллинистический период – искусство и философия. Позже город был разрушен землетрясением и восстановлен под именем Констанция. Руины Саламина – одни из самых впечатляющих на Кипре: амфитеатр, термы и колоннады говорят о былом величии.

Идалион

Идалион, находившийся близ современного Дали, был важным центром внутреннего Кипра. Он известен как место особого почитания Афродиты и Асклепия. Идалион стал символом греческой культуры на острове и известен благодаря найденной здесь знаменитой бронзовой табличке – одному из древнейших документов кипрского письма, рассказывающему о социальном договоре между царем и гражданами. Идалион был разрушен персами в V веке до н.э.

Солы

Солы, расположенные на северо-западе Кипра, были процветающим царством с богатой культурой и торговыми связями. Город был основан ахейцами и позже известен своими храмами, монетным двором и рынками. Здесь почитались Афродита и Гера, а также местные божества плодородия. В римский период Солы сохранили свое значение, здесь был построен амфитеатр и великолепные термы. То, что сохранилось от города сегодня, относится в основном к римскому периоду. В первую очередь это мозаичный пол базилики с множеством изображений птиц, животных, геометрических узоров.

Пафос

Древний Пафос, центр культа богини Афродиты, считался священным городом Кипра. На разных этапах своей истории Пафос находился в разных местах. Изначальный Пафос или Палепафос (греч. «старый Пафос») был расположен на месте современного селения Куклия. Именно здесь находился древний храм богини Афродиты. Новый Пафос (греч. «Неа Пафос») стал главным городом острова в римское время. Здесь находилась резиденция римских проконсулов. Это административное положение принесло Пафосу богатство и монументальные постройки – мозаики, виллы, театр. Сегодня археологические памятники Пафоса входят в список Всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО.

Ледра

Ледра находилась в центре острова – на месте современной Никосии. Хотя она была меньше других царств, Ледра играла стратегическую роль как перевалочный пункт между побережьями. Царство существовало с X века до н.э. и славилось своими ремесленниками и торговцами. После персидского и эллинистического периода Ледра превратилась в важный административный центр. В византийскую эпоху город получил новое имя – Лефкосия. Локализовать Ледру довольно проблематично, но ряд ученых предполагает, что город был расположен в районе к югу от венецианских стен Никосии.

 
Хитры

Город Хитры, на месте которого сегодня находится селение Китрея (тур. Дегирменлик) был одним из небольших, но богатых городов-царств недалеко от Ледры. Археологические находки – надписи, керамика, украшения – свидетельствуют о его высокой культуре. Это было первое кипрское царство, принявшее христианство. Город был разрушен в IX веке н.э. в результате набега сарацин. На карте.

 
Курион

Курион находился на юго-западном побережье Кипра и славился своим стратегическим расположением на скалистом холме с видом на море (за что это место до сих любят многие жители Кипра). Город был основан ахейцами и стал мощным центром греческой культуры. Здесь развивались земледелие, торговля и искусство. Особое значение имели культ Аполлона Гилатского и его святилище. Курион пережил римское господство и был разрушен землетрясением в IV веке. Сегодня это одно из самых живописных археологических мест острова: античный театр, термы и остатки раннехристианских базилик поражают.

Марий

Марий, или Марион, располагался на западном побережье, на месте современного Полиса Хрисохуса. Марион активно торговал с Афинами и материковой Грецией, чеканил собственную монету и славился храмом Аполлона. После персидского и македонского периодов город был разрушен Птолемеем I, но вскоре восстановлен под именем Арсиноя в честь царицы Птолемеевского Египта.

Тамассос

Тамассос находился в центре острова и славился своими богатыми медными месторождениями. Именно благодаря этим ресурсам город стал одним из богатейших царств Кипра. Тамассос активно торговал с Финикией, Египтом и материковой Грецией, экспортируя медь и бронзовые изделия. Руины Тамассоса, включая царские гробницы, свидетельствуют о его древнем великолепии. Аматус

Аматус (также Амафунт или Аматуса – это русские варианты передачи древнегреческого названия Ἀμαθοῦς), расположенный на востоке современного Лимассола, был одним из древнейших городов-царств Кипра, основанным, возможно, еще во времена микенской колонизации. Он славился культом Афродиты и Адониса, а также собственной медной промышленностью. Аматус долго сохранял независимость, даже когда соседние города перешли под власть финикийцев. Позже город вошел в состав державы Александра Македонского и процветал в эллинистический период. Руины города, включая акрополь и некрополь, хранят следы разных эпох – от античных храмов до византийских укреплений.

Кериния

Кериния, на северном побережье Кипра, была портовым городом, славившимся своими торговыми связями с материком. Благодаря удобной гавани она стала пунктом обмена товаров и культур между Грецией, Малой Азией и островами Эгейского моря. Археологические находки, включая древний корабль, затонувший у побережья, свидетельствуют о морском могуществе города. В римскую эпоху Кериния оставалась процветающим портом, а в византийские времена стала важной крепостью. Лапитос

Лапитос располагался западнее Керинии и считался одним из самых плодородных мест острова. Он славился медными рудниками, оливковыми рощами и мастерами-гончарами. Его стратегическое расположение делало город объектом споров между греками и финикийцами. В римский период Лапитос процветал, а позднее стал центром христианства на севере Кипра. Сегодня это крупное селение Лапитос или, по-турецки, Лапта. На карте.

 

Китион

Китион был финикийским городом на южном побережье острова и играл огромную роль в торговле между Востоком и Западом. Его основали жители Тира, и он стал очагом финикийской культуры на Кипре. Здесь процветали ремесла, металлургия и судостроение. В Китионе почитали бога Мелькарта, отождествляемого с Гераклом. Позже город перешел под власть греков, сохранив смешанный характер. Современная Ларнака стоит прямо над древним Китоном, сохраняя преемственность культуры на протяжении трех тысячелетий. На карте.
